Bright start for the Fitzpatricks fighters

Archie Wales and Louis Westhead after their skills bout

LEAMINGTON based Fitzpatricks’ gym got the new season off to a flying start last weekend with four boxers competing on four shows.

First stop was Small Heath, Birmingham – the setting for two debuts. In a skills bout, Archie Wales and Bell Green ABC’s Louis Westhead produced a fine exhibition of the noble art.

Then came senior debutant Raffy Martin, pitched against the hosts’ Ethan Smith. They produced a  high octane clash which went the Fitzpatrick man’s way by unanimous points decision.

On Sunday it was on to Newdigate Boxing Club’s home show. Here, another debutant, Tommy Lee, showcased his skills alongside Bell Green’s Imbrahim Mohamed. It was an impressive debut for both young boxers starting their journey in the sport.

Last, but by no means least, was Micky McTigue. Following a fantastic encounter with Nuneaton’s Ben Bennett, the Fitzpatricks man had his hand raised.

Tommy Lee...showed promise in his very first bout

Club coach Derek Fitzpatrick said: “We are all immensely proud of the boys this weekend. All of our lads did the gym proud and there are plenty more debuts on the horizon for our aspiring boxers.

“Everyone is working hard and that hard work was evident this weekend. Well done lads. Next week McTigue and clubmate David Boswell will kick off their campaigns in the Midlands rounds of the national development championships.
