M6 Sport: new force on the boxing scene

M6 Sport...spreading the word about grass-roots fighters

AT long last…a truly major on-line presence for West Midlands fighters, compiled by top sports writers, backed by big names.

This platform is what I’ve wanted for a long time: a significant site where grass roots, small hall fighters can get the recognition their dedication and bravery deserve. A site with muscle and a far-reaching audience.

I’m committed to doing that, but FightCity is a one-man band, a “labour of love” blog. M6 Sport has a bank of reporters covering a range of sports.

Launched only weeks ago, M6 Sport aims to be what the old “sporting pink”, The Sports Argus, once was – a paper for, and dedicated to, the area’s teams, athletes and individuals.

That means our boxers. That means fighters looking to reach area title fight level and beyond can now speak to a wider fan base.

Black Country, Birmingham and Coventry boxers now have been given a voice on a major site fuelled by professional journalists.

Boxers such as Ryan Whelan and newcomer Brad Willetts who both fought at Birmingham Airport’s Holiday Inn last week, would struggle to be heard, to make headlines, in their local newspapers.

They – and all the other local ring heroes – are now being backed by a slick, powerful news site that is growing with every day.

And that’s because – thanks to those fighters, trainers and boxers who have supported me from the start – M6 Sport have decided to work with my site, FightCity.

That means the messages – the hopes, highs and lows -  you spread on FightCity will now be heard across the West Midlands sporting landscape.

It’s a major breakthrough for the local game. It’s a must for everyone who, like me, are addicted to our blood and bruises business.

We’ve caught the eye of the next big thing in regional sports coverage: a website run by a team of professional, experienced journalists.
