Powar: I want fans to know I’m The Truth!

GULLY Powar, the Wolverhampton super-bantam who simply never stops throwing punches, says he’s emerged from the first major televised bout of his unblemished career as “The Truth”.

“Now a wider audience know what I’m all about,” he told me.

On the major Boxxer bill in his own city on November 18, Gully does what Gully does. He subjected Engel Gomez to a blizzard of leather on the way to a four round, shut-out decision.

The shellacking was screened by Sky Sports.

Now the 21-year-old wants more. Unbeaten in seven, he hopes to be on another major show by the end of the year.

Powar has taken pride in his performance against a heavier opponent brought in at short notice.

“I was made for the big stage,” he told me. “I moved on to the big platform at the age of 21. I sold all the tickets I was given, 120.

“It was everything I wanted, it was great and I know Sky Sports were impressed with me. I’m aiming for big things and I’m old school.

“A wider audience can now see clearly what I’m about. I’m in there to get the man out of there, I’m in there to do the business.

“I want to fight every two months. I took three days off after the fight and then it was back to the early morning seven mile runs.

“I want to show I’m The Truth in boxing.

“It was only four rounds because of factors out of my control. If it was six, I think I would’ve stopped him.

“Now I’m just keeping on improving in the gym.”

Of his big night, Gully added: “I was made to be there, I was ready to be there. There were nerves – every good fighter has nerves – but I could feel the energy.”
