New pro Dylan Clift: I’m in it for title belts

Dylan Clift…former Acocks Green amateur will fight at light-welter

DYLAN Clift believes he’s destined for titles in the pro game.

The Acocks Green boxer turned over this week with Anthony Manning and plans to make his debut on March 2 at Birmingham’s Eastside Rooms.

Dylan, a ground worker with Birmingham Council by day, amassed just under 40 bouts for Acocks Green as an amateur.

“I took part in every major tournament,” he told me. “I boxed in Ireland, I got to the high stages in championships. I fought top guys.

“I just felt I’d reached as far as I could in the amateur game and wanted that change. I changed gyms, I changed training routines, to get to the next level, then decided to take the next step and turn pro.”

The 21-year-old will be trained by dad Christopher and Gary Turner.

“I like to stalk an opponent and I’m aggressive on the front foot,” the 21-year-old said. “I think I can go far and I want titles. By 10 to 15 fights I want to have an area title.

“I’ve never had that bouncy, points scoring, modern amateur style. I like letting shots go and I had close to 10 stoppages as an amateur. With 8oz gloves, I know I can do more.”

And Dylan believes he’ll tick the boxes when it comes to selling tickets.

“I have good people around me,” he added. “I have lots of followers in my area, Acocks Green, and on social media.”
