Niall: voluntary work outside the ropes, violence inside them

Niall Farrell…set to face Logan Paling at Excelsior Club, Cannock

IT LOOKS near certain red-hot prospect Niall Farrell will now face tough Logan Paling at Cannock’s Excelsior Club on Thursday, September 28.

The pair were meant to face each other on Tommy Owens’ five star show at Planet Ice, Solihull, on September 9.

Niall, Birmingham’s former outstanding amateur, will still fight at Planet Ice – and has sold over 500 tickets for the show.

Then it’s back to where his professional journey began, Scott Murray’s Excelsior.

It’s not hard to see why the Kingstanding lightweight has amassed such a massive following. He’s oozed talent in his two bouts to date – and the 25-year-old believes in giving back to the community.

The good work fighters do away from the ring often go unnoticed, but I was heartened to see a post from Good Shepherd Service, which provides help for the homeless. Niall has rolled his sleeves up and helped the organisation.

Good Shepherd stated: “Great to welcome one of our ambassadors Niall Farrell for a catch-up today.

“Doing some great work away from the ring at the moment as well as continuing a busy start to his professional boxing career.”

Not many people know this, but…Niall is also a fully qualified mentor and attends schools two or three times a week to help pupils who are struggling.

Mind you, the former Team GB star is a very different proposition inside the ropes.

He recently told me: “I don’t mind the training – I train hard, but it’s the fighting that I love. I love a fight and I’m bringing maximum violence.

“The whole idea is to be as busy as we can. I’ll be 4-0 by the end of September. An active fighter is a happy fighter and a happy fighter is a dangerous fighter.”

There’ll be pressure little charity offered Logan Paling on September 28.
