Mohammed made to work for debut win

Adam Mohammed…heavy-hitting newcomer to pro game

NEW Birmingham pro Adam Mohammed made a winning debut on Saturday, but was made to work for victory.

Compact and powerful, Mohammed outpointed Jack England over four rounds at Coventry Skydome, referee Chris Dean scoring 39-37.

The featherweight can punch and comes into the paid ranks with a record of 10 wins in 13 amateur bouts, seven by stoppages.

But he struggled to let his hands go against Brentwood’s England until the second half of the contest.

“I felt it was a below par performance, I can do better than that,” said Mohammed.

What he did was more than enough to beat England who has now lost seven on the spin.

Mohammed stalked England in the first two sessions, only to get caught by light shots. In the third, he injected more urgency in his work, froze Jack momentarily with a right hand and  worked the body.

Mohammed landed a thudding left hook to the body in the fourth and opened up to put the decision beyond doubt.
