McCracken Jnr wins an absolute cracker

Birmingham v Warwickshire…a real amateur derby

Birmingham v Warwickshire - the division rivalry returned last Sunday afternoon at the stunning Acocks Green gym, writes JOE DONNELLY.

After three, non-scoring skills bouts the contests got underway with Abdul Gariba of Nechells Green stopping Liam Hunt (Atherstone ABC) in the second round. With Hunt receiving a count in each round, the ref waved the bout off.

Daayan Abrahim of Walsall’s Pound 4 Pound boxed Lewis Wilshire (Capitol ABC,  Coventry). The first round was very close with both boxers scoring clean shots. This all changed in the second and third rounds with Wilshire pressing ahead and landing the cleaner shots. The judges agreed and Wilshire won unanimous.

Happy Pargat Singh with his proud father after win

Kieran Everett, of Solihull ABC, came up against Leamington Community's Pargat Singh in a cracking contest. Everett won the first round, but Singh rallied and boxed beautifully to take the second and third to gain a unanimous verdict.

Up next was Amir Yakoob, of Pound 4 Pound, against Ijaz Uwesikhan of Capitol ABC, Uwesikhan taking a unanimous decision with a brilliant display of southpaw boxing.

Frankie Gavin with Max McCracken Jnr after his thriller

Rohan Singh, of BCB, faced Max McCracken of Leamington's Cleary's ABC. This bout had everything, with both boxers giving 100 per cent. A cracking contest which went to McCracken via a split decision. That pleased former world amateur champion Frankie Gavin who was in McCracken's corner.

Mohammad Butt, of Nechells Green, came up against Theo Doherty of Stoke Staffs. Doherty produced a skillful show of boxing to take a split decision. This was followed by Kasim Hussain, of Aston ABC, boxing Luke Arnold of the Toe 2 Toe gym, Coventry, Hussain having too much for Arnold to take the  win.

Jamie Ashfield has his hand raised in victory over Aayan Pascha

Aayan Pascha (HiTec) faced Jamie Ashfield of Royal Leamington Spa in a real barnstormer of a contest, both lads landing big shots throughout. The bout went to Ashfield by a well deserved unanimous decision.

The final bout of the afternoon was between Pound 4 Pound's Harvey Hornby and Team Seymour's Shyell Meesam, Hornby taking a unanimous points win meaning the very successful Pound 4 Pound won all their contest. The result meant Warwickshire retained the bragging rights having beaten Birmingham last time out.

Birmingham's Paul Archer will be looking for revenge next year with many of his team unable to box on the bill.
