Boxing Punchlines: Tori-Ellis Willetts
When and why did you start boxing?
Started boxing the age of 18, but kick-boxing at 11.
Tell me about you amateur debut?
At Eastside ABC in Birmingham. Stopping my opponent in the third round in front of the home crowd was great.
What were your amateur highlights and most memorable bout?
Winning Elite national championships, representing Great Britain internationally in tournaments and training camps all around the world. My most memorable bout was beating Chloe Watson in the final of the second Elites.
What was your amateur record and titles won or challenged for?
Twenty-nine fights , 2x Elite English National Champion, 2x GB Champion. Beat Commonwealth bronze medalist at Feliks Stamm tournament in Poland and beat World silver medallist in France at a tournament.
How did you find the transition from amateurs to the professional ranks?
The move to professional suited me down to a T. I have that fighting side in me and the work rate, so actually punching with more intent, instead of point scoring, suits me better.
Tell me about you professional debut?
The debut with Fight Zone was a unforgettable experience live on BBC iplayer and as the co-main event. (Tori stopped Klaudia Ferenczi in Rotherham on May 5).
I felt the best I have felt for a long time at a new weight and performed on the night with friends and family ringside. I faced an experienced opponent and stopping her in the third round.
What’s next for you?
Fighting on a BCB Promotions show in Birmingham at Eastside Rooms on July 30.
What is the best advice you could give to a young boxer starting out?
Never stop working hard and grinding even when you get knocked back or take defeats in life. Keep going - God has a plan for everyone at the right time.
