Jermaine back after breaking his hand
JERMAINE Osbourne-Edwards has every reason to come back with a bang when he resumes his pro career after injury.
He will be raring to go when BCB Promotions are once again at the Hangar Events Venue, in Wolverhampton, for another Friday fight night, on April 28.
Osbourne-Edwards, from Wolverhampton, last competed, at the same venue, in October and broke his hand during a six-round points success over Bulgarian visitor Georgi Velichkov.
“The Kundalini King” sustained the problem early on and had to use his guile to see the final bell, where he’d shut-out Velichkov through a 60-54 points whitewash.
Osbourne-Edwards had recorded the same result over Paul Scaife, again at the Hangar, last July and is again set for a six-rounder.
His pro record stands at 6-0, having debuted in October, 2021, with one stoppage to his credit, having taken just a round to wipe-out Krasikir Vasilev.
The 34-year-old welterweight has additionally secured four-round points verdicts at the expense of MJ Hall, Fonz Alexander and Petar Aleksandrov.
He turned over after a short amateur career, with Merridale Boxing Club in his home city. He lost only one of 10 and is now trained by ex-pro Richie Carter.
Osbourne-Edwards, who grew up on the Dovecotes estate, but now lives in Pendeford, has also had a tragedy to contend with, in recent months, while recuperating.
He said: “My last opponent was a tough man, but I was pushing him back in the first couple of rounds. If I hadn’t broken my left hand, in the third, I think I’d have got him out of there.
“I couldn’t do anything, with my left hand, after that. I’m a southpaw, so I just jabbed with the right hand. He caught on to what was happening, so I had to get a bit rough.
“I just had to carry on and it was good that I still won all of the rounds. It really started to hurt, but I meditated the pain away. It kept me out for a few months.
“I’ve been training since January, but I’ve only started sparring in the last few weeks. My hand went again, at first, but I changed my wraps and I’m back at full pelt now.
“This is going to be another six-rounder, but we’re looking at a step up for me in the summer. I don’t want to reveal the plan yet, but me and my fans will find it exciting.
“I can’t look past this fight, though. I’d love to get a stoppage in, but I could use the rounds as well. It will be emotional, for me, and I dedicate the performance to my cousin.
“I was close to Chantelle (Lee Cameron), she was about the same age as me and we grew up together. For her to pass away, at the age of just 34, has been very tough.
“She has been to all of my pro fights, so it will be hard not having her there. I just need to concentrate on getting a win that Chantelle would be proud of.”
