THE Black Country’s very own Million Dollar Baby, Katie Healy, has clinched a world title on a major televised bill.

The Wolverhampton bantam will face Nina Hughes for the latter’s WBA title at Wembley Arena on June 10.

For Katie, the big fight, televised by DAZN, is reward for her outstanding points victory over Matshidiso Mokebisi in South Africa last July. She picked up the WBF super-bantam crown with that win.

Reacting to the news on facebook, Katie simply posted: “Eeekk – the news is out, absolutely buzzing.”

TMA Trojan gym said: “After successfully winning the WBF title in South Africa we are over the moon to feature on the big stage come June.

“This fight is live on DAZN and featured two other world titles.”

At 25-years-old, Katie’s career is flying. She turned pro in 2021 and is unbeaten in six. Last time out, in March, Katie outpointed Katherine Quintana in front of home fans at the Hangar Events Venue.

I was there and reported: “I don’t know who handles Healy, but she’s been well schooled and very well conditioned. Boxing’s bedrock – jab, cross and left hook – are on point.

“Healy had too much of everything for Colombia’s Katherine Quintana at the Hangar, taking every session of their six rounder, 60-54.

“Much taller than her opponent, Healy fired the jab like a well-oiled piston, slipped counters and drilled left hooks to the body.”

In defending champ Hughes, from Billericay, Essex, she faces her toughest opponent to date. Currently 5-0, Hughes took the Commonwealth super-bantam belt in her third fight.

Last November, she became WBA bantamweight titleholder by outpointing American Jamie Mitchell in Dubai.
