Finlan starts career with a landslide win
JACK Finlan eased into the pro game with shut-out four round victory on BCB’s show at The Hangar, Wolverhampton, on Friday.
It proved an undemanding baptism for Burntwood’s Finlan who won every session on referee Ryan Churchill’s card, 40-36.
Simas Volosinas, a Lithuanian veteran of over 130 bouts, was in defensive mode throughout and threw very little back.
Tall Finlan (9st 13lbs), his left arm slung low, dictated behind the jab, but also delivered left hooks to the body.
He doubled the lead in the third and let his hands go. Volosinas (9st 12lbs) caught most of the flak coming his way on a high guard.
Finlan is something of an unknown quantity. He started as an amateur at Platinum Boxing, Burntwood, under the watchful eye of experienced coach Ste Cadman. When the decision was made to turn professional, there was no doubt the pair would continue their working relationship in the pro game.
In an interview with BCB, he said: “I have been boxing all my life. I had eight amateur fights, winning six, and have been in and around the gym for a long time.
“I had been away to Los Angeles, where I had sparred with some good-level fighters. When I came back, I sat down with ‘Cad' and decided now was the time to give this a go.”
It gets tougher from here on in, Jack.
