Welter Egan pulls out of Solihull show

Brett Egan…hopes to return to ring before end of year

BRETT Egan, the tall, talented Birmingham welter, has pulled out of the major Solihull Planet Ice show on June 10.

That’s a blow for promoter Tommy Owens. Egan, from Erdington, has a good following and brings entertainment to the ring.

But Brett, who has lost only one of six, has insisted he isn’t mentally prepared for the contest and that decision has to be respected: go into a ring not fully focused and you can pay a heavy price.

Egan – a thoroughly likeable individual, a man I have a lot of time for – will, hopefully, continue with his career. He has ability and was closing in on an Midlands title fight.

He was last in action on April 22 and took every round against Liam Fox.

The 28-year-old told me: “I just want some ‘me’ time. My mum passed away five years ago and I’ve had up and down days since then.

“I lost my job in January and have been living off my savings. I’ve been up and down in my head. I’ve had six fights and never really had any ‘me’ time after any of them. My head has been all over the place.”

Brett, however, has vowed he’ll continue with his career. “I hope to get a fight in by the end of the year.”

That’s a positive. Brett has an awful lot to offer the game.
