Tyler to top the bill against Middleton

Tyler Christopher…improving with every contest

TYLER Christopher – a boxer with an intriguing cover story – will face Luke Middleton in his first appearance as bill-topper on a show.

The six foot welter will featuring in the main event at the H Suite, Edgbaston, on Saturday March 25 – and he should emerge from the six rounder victorious.

Light-middle Middleton, from Langold, Nottinghamshire, has won only two of 26 (two draws), but has been stopped only twice.

He looks the perfect learning pro for ring apprentice Christopher.

Christopher, who boxes under the ring moniker “Mike Tyler”, is a slick southpaw with a healthy dig. He’s won all five contests and, last time out, stopped newcomer Harley Marginson in one.

The man has certainly travelled in the quest for ring success.

He hails from Bermuda, was part of the country’s national team then travelled to Birmingham to pursue a pro career.

The 26-year-old has kept strong links with the paradise island and is sponsored by companies over there. It’s hoped he’ll box on a Bermuda pro show in the near future.

He travelled back to Bermuda during the dawn of the pandemic and ended-up trapped there when lockdown restrictions were introduced.

Anthony Hull, who trains Christopher at Birmingham’s D&A gym, has high hopes for his charge.

He said: “In sparring, he’s held his own with some good lads. He’s had some below-par spars, but never been beaten up.

“The first three fights he had, he was constantly moving. I told him that, as a pro, he can stand, defend and trade. He’s done that and I’ve been quite shocked the way the power has come through.

“There is real power there – and he’s a person who puts his heart and soul into training.

“We’re looking for a Midlands title this year, I think that’s easily possible. We’re not waiting around – the plan is to do the Midlands, then move to English level.

“I do believe he has something. We’re playing around with the weight at the moment. He came to me as a welter, but he’s got more muscle now. We’ll take anything at welter, super-welter (light-middle), even middle.”
