Top Boxer’s hit list: Louis Fielding, 10-8
DORSET’S Stefan Vincent has been added to Tommy Owens’ exciting Top Boxer lightweight showdown.
The 32-year-old joins the last-man-standing competition with one win in three following the withdrawal of Leicester’s Seb Simmonds.
But he’ll be heartened by the success of another substitute who entered the last Top Boxer competition for welterweights. Kirk Stevens went on to win the whole thing.
Now it’s the turn of the lightweights.
On September 9, at Planet Ice, Solihull, eight fighters will roll the dice and take part in Tommy Owen’s Top Boxer tournament.
The competition comprises bouts of only three rounds, a distance that guarantees action: there’s no time to size-up an opponent. There’s the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final on the same night.
It’s a huge gamble, but, for the battered and bruised winner, a gamble worth taking. He will receive £6,000, the other finalist £3,000, while the two losing semi-finalists will pocket £2,000.
The other seven taking part are:
Knowle’s Dylan Norman. The 23-year-old, trained by Wayne Elcock, has won four on the spin as a pro.
Tamworth’s Louis Fielding. The 33-year-old has had three Midlands title fights in an 18 fight career (eight losses).
Dudley’s Ryan Griffiths, 22, has won both pro bouts.
Lincoln’s DJ Tollerton 22, is unbeaten in three, all on points, all over the four round distance.
Hereford’s Daniel Williams, 34, has won both his four rounders on points.
Nottingham’s Delmar Thomas, 27, is on a three bout losing streak and will have been out of the ring for a year when the Top Boxer bell rings.
Walsall’s Darnell Duut comes into the competition with only one pro bout under his belt – and that was a draw in February, 2022.
Each week, Fight City will shine the spotlight on one of the eight competitors. This time it’s the turn of Tamworth’s LOUIS FIELDING.
Pick your ideal first opponent? How do you win and why?
I think a three round tournament brings excitement and good value for money for the fans. It’s really hard to call who I’d ideally like to fight in this, I think records go out the window in a three round bout. I know very little of the guys involved. Maybe Danny Williams first? We are the older two of the group and there’s only room for one. I win on points.
You’re now warmed up, pick your ideal semi-final opponent?
Semi final, who knows? I’m happy to go in with any of the lads and take my hat off to them for taking the risk of losing their ‘0’, which is what boxing is about. No risk no reward.
You’re now in the final. Who’s in the opposite corner?
The final, myself and Dylan Norman. He’s had four and won them. I know he’s meant to be pretty good and is being tipped as a fave.
Again, I don’t really think that means anything in this. Look how the welterweights turned out. Me and Dylan will be a great fight to seal the show, but my experience comes into play and I win on points.
Why are you taking the Top Boxer gamble?
Boxing is a no risk, no reward business and you have to take opportunities in this game if you want to succeed.
