Super fights for Sam and Ben on five star Birmingham TV bill!
Sam Eggington…mouthwatering clash with Lee Cutler
SAM Eggington told fans on social media a very big fight announcement was pending – and the Stourbridge Savage wasn’t exaggerating.
The British, European and world champ will face banger Lee Cutler on April 20 on a Resorts World, Birmingham, bill that bristles with mouth-watering battles and is screened on Sky Sports.
Make no mistake, it’s a blockbuster.
In the main event Wolverhampton’s Olympic silver medallist Ben Whittaker attempts to repair reputational damage by again facing Liam Cameron.
The flashy light-heavyweight was given a torrid time by Cameron last October until both fell out of the ring in the sixth. Unable to continue because of a leg injury, the bout was declared a technical draw.
Whittaker, who had breezed his eight contest before that encounter and boasted of big things, looked beatable that night. He has endured a lot of flak.
At the press conference to announce the five star show, Whittaker said: "I like to just prove points to myself and how good of a boxer I am and that will show.
"I had a lot of options, there were a lot of people I could have picked but it was the right option for me.
"There's no win, lose or draw. It's just win. Win and move on. April 20, it's judgement day."
Fireworks on the night will undoubtedly be provided by the pairing of Eggington and Cutler. But, then, an Eggington bout is near guaranteed to provide drama and dynamite. The 31-year-old’s 44 bout career is studded with wars.
Sam is Britain’s undisputed king of the crowd-pleasers. In Bournemouth’s Cutler, he faces an English champ who has tasted defeat only once in 16 contests. And last time out, “Chaos” Cutler ended the winning run of Irish KO artist Stevie McKenna.
Eggington has made a habit of ruining the reputation of men with inflated records, of discovering the substance behind hype.
On April 20, fans will find out what Cutler is really made of. We already know Eggington is built from Black Country steel.
He said: "I enjoy my job. It's that simple. I love what I do. The ambition is to keep the job that you want to do.
"The belts are great with it, you get paid well. All this stuff's great but I enjoy my job and my ambition is to carry on doing that at a high level."
Cutler said: “It's an honour to be here and fighting on this sort of stage. A lot of people doubted me.
"I'm improving all the time. Sam Eggington is the biggest name on my record now, or will be. April 20 we've got to go at it and there's always going to be one winner and it's going to be me."
On the packed bill, Tyler Denny, Rowley Regis’ former European middleweight champ, has his first fight since losing the belt. He faces Elvis Ahorgah, who went down to a battling defeat against Callum Simpson at super-middleweight earlier this month.
"It'll make for a fun fight," Denny said. "I'm buzzing to be back. The hunger's there. I'm going to show everyone I've got plenty left in the tank.”
