Stewart, Campbell add beef to menu at Excelsior next show

Hosea Stewart…faces Scottish champ in Cannock on November 30

PREPARE for some serious heavyweight action on Scott Murray’s next Excelsior Sporting Club show. And I mean serious.

On the November 30 bill – a celebration of St Andrew’s Day – hulking Wolverhampton heavy Hosea Stewart, who scaled a staggering 24 stone the last time I saw him in action, faces Scottish champ Nick Campbell.

The Glasgow boxer, who has lost one of seven, stands 6ft 7ins. The former rugby pro usually scales just over 17 stone.

I only hope the ring at Cannock’s Excelsior Club is well supported.

The night will see English boxers face those from north of the border. It is a collaboration between Britain’s newest sporting club, The Excelsior, and the country’s oldest, St Andrew’s in Glasgow.

There will be pipers, haggis and whisky tasting, too boot.

Expect raw, big punching action from Campbell and Stewart, who has lost one and drawn two of five.

Scott said: “It’s a terrific fight, that’s what it is. We are talking about some serious beef in the ring – over 40 stone of it.”

Last time I watched Hosea in action, I reported: “Even by the standards of modern heavyweight boxing, Hosea is a colossus who scale a staggering 24 stone for his four rounder with Nottingham’s Lamah Griggs.

“And I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed a greater physical disparity between two men sharing the ring. Griggs, who at 17st 12lbs looked like he, too, had excess baggage to shed, was dwarfed by Stewart. During the ring-centre instructions he came barely to the Black Country hope’s chest.”

November 30 is shaping to be a very exciting night.

There’s haggis on offer. Campbell and Stewart will serve-up the beef.
