Sidelined Sowe gets career back on track
ELLIOTT Sowe, rail worker by day, gets his career back on track at Edgbaston’s H Suite on Sunday.
The Tyseley fighter sheds ring rust gathered during a nine month break on Tommy Owens’ afternoon show.
The 25-year-old, sidelined by a back injury, faces Worksop’s Luke Middleton, who has won only two of 30 (two draws) over four rounds.
Welter Sowe has done better than many expected in the paid ranks. He turned over after only two white collar bouts and has lost only one of six – to current Midlands champ Kirk Stevens.
“This fight, then straight into six rounders,” Sowe told me. “I want a title and to be on some TV bills.
“I’m looking for a big win on Sunday, I’m looking to pick him apart, not a one-punch knockout. I’m taking this journey some distance, as far as I can.
“They call me ‘Courage’ and I’m just game to fight. I just want to fight, even when I’m not well.”
Sowe had planned to gain experience on the amateur circuit, then the pandemic struck. With the amateur game at a standstill, he made the bold step of becoming professional. He trains out of the D&A gym and is managed by Jon Pegg.
Sowe added: “Some good words have been said about me and I’ve got good support. They make a lot of noise at fights.”
