Seaside defeats for Showy and Logan

Reiss “Showy” Taylor…still in love with the game

TOUGH Great Barr light-welter Logan Paling is still searching for his first win after falling short in Bournemouth on Friday night.

The likeable 31-year-old has now lost six on the spin after dropping every session of a four-rounder to Southampton lightweight Jake Clarke.

Paling, who always comes to fight, has featured in tough battles that could’ve gone either way since turning over last October.

This was not one of them. Tall Clarke won beyond doubt. Paling, from a Thai boxing background, looked below par.

That was Clarke’s second win on the spin after being stopped in his debut.

Trainer Shaun Cogan said: “Logan had a few issues going into the fight and it showed. We were seeing progress with him, but that progress was not there on Friday.”

The loss also proved costly.

Logan was scheduled to fight again on Saturday, March 4,  but cuts above and below the eye have ruled him out for 28 days.

Paling…still searching for win

He will be fine for a pro show being staged by Cogan and Anthony Hall, in conjunction with Tommy Owens and Jon Pegg, at Edgbaston’s H Suite. Ben Fields is also scheduled to appear on the bill.

On the same show, Birmingham super-fly Reiss “Showy” Taylor – the shortest pro in the country at 4ft 11ins – was outpointed over four by newcomer Valentin Marku.

The 32-year-old may have won only three of 20, but he has a real love for the game.

The day after the loss, he posted on facebook: “Boxing has enabled me to able to travel all across the UK, from Scotland to Sheffield, Leicester, Northampton, Birmingham , Hull, London, Liverpool, Blackpool, Rotherham, Wolverhampton, Wrexham, Bolton and Bournemouth thus far, which I'm grateful for!

“Even though getting in the ring is a risk every time, every time you leave your residence for outside is a risk in itself as no day is promised to us!

“Morale of the story -  do what you heart desires and live your dreams because tomorrow is promised to nobody. Don't let nobody put you off!”
