Robinson: I still just love to have a fight

Andrew Robinson….keeps sharp at the H Suite on Friday

WHEN menacing middle Andrew Robinson says he loves fighting, the man they call “D’Animal” means it.

Birmingham’s former British title challenger marks time at the H Suite, Edgbaston, on Friday, September 24 as he awaits bigger opportunities.

He’s expected to take part in a four or six rounder against undemanding opposition.

And Robinson has earned an easier night after a 36 fight career littered with wars. He has gone to the well time and again.

He has taken Midlands and international belts.

At 38, Robinson is surely nearing the end, but refuses to contemplate retirement.

He said: “I don’t even think about it, I just love fighting – whether it’s four rounds or 12 rounds.

“I’m enjoying myself. I’m still hitting all the times for running, I’m still beating people in the gym, I’m still ticking all the boxes. I enjoy what I’m doing.

“The younger generation can’t keep up with me.”

Robinson’s many highlights include snapping the long unbeaten run of Polish star Damian Jonak in his own backyard and pushing Frank Buglioni all the way for the European title.

His bid for the Lonsdale Belt was turned back by Liam Williams in one round.

There is one fight Robinson yearns for – a return with current British super-middle king Mark Heffron.

Big punching Heffron halted D’Animal back in 2018 after landing shots that appeared well south of the border.

Robinson said: “I’d love Heffron again. I’ve never liked him for what he did that night, he stopped my dream. It’s about justice.”

He added: “I definitely believe I can win the British title. The last few months have been disappointing because we’ve had good fights lined-up, only for them to fall through through no fault of my own.

“I’m still feared.”
