Put Danny and Nyall on Resorts World bill

Danny Quartermaine…big ticketseller destined for big things

BIRIMINGHAM is bracing itself for something of a rarity – a major televised boxing show.

Major promotional outfit Boxxer, headed by Ben Shalom, today revealed the Sky Sports televised show will take on May 6 at Resorts World.

To the wider public, it will showcase Boxxer’s new signing, undefeated light-heavy Joshua Buatsi.

But they’ll be plenty of local interest  on the bill.

I understand Sam Eggington, former British light-heavyweight champ Shakan Pitters and Kaisee Benjamin are scheduled to appear. For welterweight Benjamin, it’s a first outing since failing to lift the British title.

There’s a reason why the big London promoters rarely chance their arm in the Second City. Putting it bluntly, their shows have not received the level of local support they deserve.

Let’s hope Shalom has better luck.

It’s great to see Eastside gym’s stars getting national exposure, but I’d like to see two rising stars included at Resorts World, Chelmsley Wood feather Nyall Berry and Leamington junior-light/lightweight Danny Quartermaine.

They are both destined for bigger things than small halls.

It’s time a wider audience saw what they bring to the table. Viewers will not be disappointed.

And if Shalom wants to fill a large arena, Quartermaine, who enjoys massive, noisy support, will go a long way to doing that.

Nyall Berry….featherweight who has made stunning progress

At a press conference called on Wednesday to announce his switch to Boxxer, Buatsi said: "I want to get the biggest fights on the biggest, most accessible platform for sports fans.

"I'm not going to tell you to download an app and type in your email and bank details. Type in the TV channel and you can watch me fight.

“I'm top three in three of the governing bodies. It's about manoeuvring myself in the right way so that I can become a mandatory challenger. There's not a specific name, I just want to get my hands on the belt."

Shalom said: "He doesn't want to duck anyone. He wants the biggest test and wants to be recognised for it. We can 100 per cent deliver on that."
