Pleasing debut for Tipton’s Skidmore

DANNY Skidmore made a pleasing pro debut at Edgbaston’s H Suite on Friday, winning every round against Paul Scaife.

The Tipton 28-year-old showed a particularly nice right hook to the body on his way to a shut-out 40-36, four round victory.

Sheffield’s Scaife – winner of only one of 39 bouts – kept a tight guard, but copped plenty.

“I’m happy with that,” Danny said, “it was a special night. I felt I was hurting him.”

Trained by Jimmy Gould, Skidmore (10st 2lbs 4oz) is a tall and rangy light-welter who puts punches together with whiplash speed.

As early as the opening minute, he was working Scaife’s body – and the punishment continued throughout.

Scaife (10st 4lbs 4oz) took two heavy rights to the ribs in the second and copped a classy left hook in the following session.

With very little coming back, Skidmore kept it long in the last, spearing the Yorkshireman with jabs.
