Nyall, Sam and Scott on Tyler Euro title bill

Nyall Berry…a chance to arrive on the national stage

FEATHERWEIGHT sensation Nyall Berry has bagged the major TV date he so richly deserves.

I can reveal Chelmsley Wood’s red-hot prospect will fight on the November 18 show at The Halls – formerly the Civic Hall – in Wolverhampton. The show, promoted by Boxxer and screened on Sky Sports, is topped by Tyler Denny’s European middleweight title shot.

Though nothing has been officially released, I can confirm two other boxers from Birmingham’s Eastside gym will perform on the big night.

Sam Eggington – undisputed king of British ring warriors – has rightly been included. And in a surprise, Scott Melvin will defend the Midlands lightweight title he took so dramatically last month with last round victory over Mykey Lee-Broughton.

That potential fight of the year has earned Chelmsley Wood’s Melvin a chance to dazzle on TV.

I understand names being considered for that first defence include Willenhall’s Shaun Cooper, Tony Jones, from Telford, who made his ring return this month after five years away from the game, and Worcester’s unbeaten Ameen Khalid.

For 24-year-old Berry, it’s a chance to showcase the fire and fury that earned him last year’s Midlands Prospect of the Year award. He looks something special.

It will be his first appearance on a major, televised card. To date, he’s been something of a secret on the local circuit.

He said today: “I cannot wait. I’ve been waiting for this opportunity for ages and I’ve finally got it. It’s my chance to show what I can do on a big platform.”

What he can do is destroy opponents. In June, normally durable Hector Avila Lozano was KOd in two by a thunderous body shot.

Sam Eggington with Jon Pegg…no strangers to the big stage

Stourbridge’s Eggington, aged 29, will be having his first fight since ending the long unbeaten run of KO artist Joe Pigford in May.

The light-middle is no stranger to the big stage. He’s won British, European and world honours and always brings excitement to the ring. The Savage has won back-to-back British fight of the year awards. Sam is never in a bad fight.

Scott Melvin…surprise Midlands title defence in Wolverhampton

Jon Pegg, manager of Eggington, Berry and Melvin, said: “It’s a case of finding Sam an opponent everyone knows.

“Scott’s ready to defend his title. He took one week off after the Broughton fight and was straight back in the gym.”

He added: “It’s Nyall’s chance to win over fans across the country.”
