Norman’s first taste of big time boxing

KNOWLE’S popular Dylan Norman got his first taste of the big stage on Saturday – and registered a landslide points win over seasoned Lithuanian Simas Volosinas.

On the huge GBM show at Coventry Skydome, the 24-year-old took every session, referee Chris Dean scoring the four rounder 40-36.

Dylan is now unbeaten in nine and must surely be within touching distance of a title fight. That may well be at super-lightweight because the lad is looking broader and more muscled since joining the Eastside gym.

His days as a lightweight may be numbered if not over.

Norman (9st 13lbs 12oz) dominated against Volosinas, without putting him down. But then, not many put a dent in the Eastern European who is as tough as old boot leather. He is near indestructible.

If I have one “on the night” criticism of the prospect it’s the fact he should’ve let his hands go earlier. He really peeled off the punches in bunches in the last and I would’ve like to see that sooner.

Norman is easy on the eye and works the body well, with the right hook downstairs followed by a right uppercut becoming something of a signature combination.

Volosinas’ left flank was reddened by those spiteful hooks and in the fourth Norman really went to town.

The visitor (9st 12lb 10oz) was caught flush by a classic jab, right cross, left hook, then nailed by two left hooks to the head.

Gloves high, he grimly weathered the storm to hear the bell. Not many have prevented him lasting the distance: in 129 contests he’s been stopped only 12 times.

At the weekend, Dylan, immensely likeable, got a taste of what big time boxing is like. He’ll crave to taste it again.
