Norman joins Pegg at the Eastside gym

Dylan Norman…he and Wayne Elcock have parted company

LIGHTWEIGHT hope Dylan Norman and Wayne Elcock have amicably ended their working relationship.

By mutual consent, the Knowle prospect will now be guided by Jon Pegg and his team at Birmingham’s Eastside gym.

Dylan, unbeaten in seven, will have his first fight under the Pegg banner at the Holiday Inn, Birmingham Airport, on May 18.

He and former middleweight champ Elcock forged a successful partnership and a title fight beckoned. The move is a surprise.

“We parted company on very good terms,” said 23-year-old Dylan. “It’s about moving forward now and looking for titles.

“Wayne’s very busy with his shop and said, ‘you should move over to Jon who can move you to that next level.

“It’s good. I’ve been there (at Eastside) for three weeks, know the lads and I’m learning something new every day. I’m getting plenty of sparring with good lads.”

Norman, who had a tough start in life, is an aggressive box-fighter who sells tickets. His fanbase is growing rapidly.

“I’m out again on May 18,” said Dylan, “then there has to be a push for titles. My last fight was a six rounder and I blitzed it. People say I’m worthy of a title and I feel I deserve a shot.”

In the Midlands, the lightweight division is crammed with talent and Dylan has plenty of competition. Birmingham alone boasts top operators such as Niall Farrell, Mykey Lee Broughton and Scott Melvin.

Dylan against any of those three would be a Second City super fight.

“It is one of the most active divisions in the Midlands, which is good,” said Dylan. “I’m blessed that the Midlands has such a booming lightweight division. We can bounce off each other.

“It keeps people talking… ‘who would win between this boxer and that boxer?’ That’s what boxing is all about.”

Norman is a fighter who certainly provides excitement.

“I’m a humble person, I never lie to the fans,” he added. “I always say, ‘if you come and support me expect a good fight’. I always give value for money.”

That’s something even Dylan’s harshest critics would have to agree on.
