Nico kicks off career with whitewash win

Ogbeide prowls forward against Paling. Pictures: DEXTER HASTINGS

NICO Ogbeide looked full of confidence in his professional debut at Edgbaston’s H Suite on Sunday.

The former white collar fighter won every session of his four rounder with fellow Brummie Logan Paling, 40-36.

The 29-year-old from Bordesley Green made a late decision to go pro as he didn't want to regret never doing it. It looked the right move as Nico boxed well.

Paling, from Shaun Cogan’s Birmingham stable, is tough and game, but has now lost all 10 pro contests. Cogan, I’m sure, will be keeping a careful eye on the former Muay Thai fighter.

Nico Michael celebrates his fourth straight win

*Northampton's Nico Michael, boxing away from his hometown for the first time kept his unbeaten run going, beating Steven Maguire 39-37 over four competitive rounds. That’s the super-fly’s fourth victory on the spin.

The 28-year-old who trains at the Team Shoe Box gym has a high work rate and showed more discipline than previous performances. He looked unfortunate to drop a round on Chris Keane's scorecard.  Maguire, from Middleton, Lancashire, saw his slate drop to 4-41-1.

Jones is a picture of concentration against tough Ellison

*After a five-year break. you would expect Telford's Tony Jones to show some ring rust but the “Spiritual Warrior” looked as though he had never been away, outpointing Jordan Ellison 39-37 in the show's opener.

Jones, who has now won 10 out of his 11 fights, looks set to have a very interesting part two of what was once a very promising career at lightweight.

Ellison, from County Durham, represented a tough comeback assignment. He comes to win and famously snapped the unbeaten run of Coventry golden boy Dylan Cheema last year. He now has 14 victories in 69 contests (three draws).
