New pro Brad bids to be lord of the flys
A NEW flyweight – something of a rarity in itself – makes his debut at Edgbaston’s H Suite tomorrow (Saturday).
Brad Coley will face “Batley Bulldog” Nabil Ahmed over the fledgling four round distance.
The surname may ring bells. Elder brother Lewis is a fine, unbeaten prospect. But Lewis needs to light a fire under his career – he last fought in February, 2022, and scaled way over his best weight.
Bradley, from Kingstanding, Birmingham, seems set for a triumphant debut. Ahmed has won only one of 19 (two draws), but knows how to survive. He’s been stopped only twice.
Coley, aged 22, has the amateur credentials to go far. At junior level, he won four Midlands titles and twice reached national finals. He did not compete as a senior, taking a sabbatical from the sport.
The fighter, a product of Paddy Farrell’s 2nd City gym, is evidently well supported. His facebook site is littered with messages from well-wishers.
Stacey Coley stated: “So my Brad is having his pro debut this Saturday. This kid has worked his socks off - trains so bloody hard every day of the week.
“I would love the most amazing support for him. Let’s go champ, it’s your time to shine!”
Manager Jon Pegg, who possesses an encyclopaedic knowledge of boxing, said: “He’s a decent lad. But he’s small even for a flyweight and could even make light-fly.”
