New chapter in Troi amazing fight story

Troi Coleman…back from Thailand and fighting for a title

ANOTHER chapter in Troi Coleman’s extraordinary story has been opened with news he is to fight for the vacant Midlands middleweight title.

The 29-year-old will face Tom Cowling, unbeaten in 12, at Grantham Leisure Centre on September 14.

It is a second crack at the crown for Burntwood’s “Hawk”. Back in 2020, he was spectacularly stopped by River Wilson-Bent, then embarked on a boxing journey that would grace any novel.

Troi, one of the game’s true nice guys, relocated to Thailand, won six of seven, fought in Dubai and collected the WBC Asian Continental title.

Last November, he rolled the dice against heavy handed Isaac Hardman Down Under and was stopped in five.

Troi has become a globe-trotting warrior. He’s been back in England for only a week after training in Uzbekistan, but stressed this is now home for the “foreseeable future” having signed a one year contract with BCB.

“Everything that has happened is exactly the way I wanted it to happen,” Troi said. “To be honest, I’d never heard of Tom Cowling until we were put in the pot together. I’ve seen a couple of clips, but nothing much.

“You don’t look past your next opponent, especially when that opponent is an unbeaten fighter. But when I set my goals, the Midlands title was just a beginning and that hasn’t changed.”

Troi has no regrets about pursuing a career overseas.

“It was an amazing experience,” he added. “It made me the fighter that I’m going to become. I put myself in uncomfortable situations and came through. It is a blessing and I’m a better fighter for it, 100 per cent.”
