MYKEY Lee Broughton steps up to six round class at Eastside Rooms, Birmingham, on Saturday.
The Acocks Green boxer looks to get his sixth straight win on BCB’s show at the Eastside Rooms. To date, he hasn’t dropped a round.
Only Stu Greener has drawn a solitary session with the 21-year-old, who still prevailed comfortably by a 40-37 scoreline.
Broughton has whitewashed Jamie Quinn, Fonz Alexander, Logan Paling and MJ Hall, through 40-36 verdicts, with Hall representing his last ring action in December.
His pro debut came against Quinn in 2021, after an amateur career where he amassed 30 victories from 33 bouts, representing Birmingham City Boxing Club and later O’Dells.
Broughton, who is now trained by Anthony Manning, has sparred with the likes of Florian Marku, Ohara Davies and Jack Catterall, all major title-level fighters.
It has firmly put Broughton in the mood to become a champion himself, with Midlands honours at two weights both emerging as potential targets.
He said: “Training has been good, I’ve been working harder as I’ve been preparing for more rounds, which was always the plan for this one.
“I’m ready for this (six-rounder) and then a title shot, later this year. I’ll go for the best opportunity that’s out there, at either lightweight or light-welter.
“It wouldn’t bother me going up to 10 rounds, I’ve sparred it a few times. Every time that I spar now, it’s six to 10 rounds and Hamza (Ahmed, stable-mate) is always around.
“We go all over the country to spar, too, and I think that’s one of the most important things. For me, it’s about the whole experience, from sparring to watching the other lads train.
“You get different atmospheres, the more gyms that you go to, and that’s good experience, which has brought me on a lot. I want to see where I’m at now.
“My last opponent (MJ Hall) was a heavier lad, but he didn’t lean on me much. He was running off when I upped the tempo and I was lighting him up with combination punches.
“I’ve only shared one round as a pro when the other guy came out and just started throwing wildly, so I had to back off. Looking back, I have to be pleased with my progress.
“I’ve had my four-round learning fights and I feel like that no-one can really touch me now, so I’m coming for them all. I want to climb the rankings and get in the top 20 this year.”
