Manning stages city show for future stars
TALENTED Birmingham lightweight Mykey Lee Broughton chases his seventh straight win at the city’s Eastside Rooms on June 23.
The show is staged by his manager Anthony Manning’s promotional group.
To date, the 21-year-old has done everything asked of him in the pro ranks. Next month’s contest will be his second six rounder.
He’s won all his outings on points and has yet to lose a round. The opposition has been fairly undemanding and Mykey is yet to face an opponent with a winning record. That will soon change.
Mykey told me: “I’m ready for a Midlands title fight now, either at lightweight or super-feather. I’m ready to do a 10 rounder now.
“I’m improving every day in the gym, 100 per cent.”
The drum has been banged for a Birmingham super-fight with fellow prospect Scott Melvin with the Midlands title on the line. Mykey, however, refuses to be drawn into the debate.
He added: “I’m only focused on the next fight. As far as I know, it’s still talk at the moment.”
Manning Promotions’ show – dubbed Nxt Gen – is shaping up and all stops have been pulled out in the build-up. There’s even billboards for the event in the city centre.
Anthony Manning is hungry and ambitious, like his fighters.
The show will feature the gym’s newcomers – heavy Simon Ebekwe, feather Reagan Oliver, junior light Hamzah Ahmed and light-middle Amir Abubaker.
It’ll be interesting to see what they’ve got to offer.
