Manning: I’ve made an offer for Robinson to fight Abubaker

Andrew Robinson…hardman who has faced the best

ANTHONY Manning – new manager and promoter – wants his marauding middleweight Amir Abubaker to face Birmingham’s rugged former British title contender Andrew Robinson.

And Manning has revealed he’s approached “D’Animal’s” management with an offer for the clash. Manning says he’s happy for the bout to take place at a date to suit Robinson – and that includes his own show at the Hangar, Wolverhampton, next Saturday, November 18. “It’s a good offer,” he said, but declined to give details.

It’s certainly an audacious one. Coventry’s Abubaker has had two contest, both rapid fire victories. He certainly hits hard.

Amir Abubaker…novice pro with real power

Robinson, in the veteran stage of his career at the age of 39, has had 38 and fought for the Lonsdale Belt, WBO European title and collected titles at Midlands and international level.

His long list of achievements include ending the 41 bout unbeaten run of Damian Jonak in Poland.

Today, Robinson gave the offer very short shrift. He said nothing would be gained from facing a novice. “I’d smash him to bits and get nothing out of it,” he explained.

Manning said: “I’ve made an offer to Andrew’s management. I think it’s a good fight. Andrew’s sitting on the bench waiting for a bigger opportunity and it’s a fight that can get his name out there and show he still has that hunger. It’s a fight there for him.

“I’ve made an offer, it’s a good offer. Amir thinks he can beat him and I know Amir is a horrible night’s work for anyone.”

Robinson definitely does not see the pairing as a good fight, even though he’s confident of winning it. “I’ve had 38 fights, he’s had two,” he said. “Seven or eight years ago, I would’ve said yes. If he had a belt, I’d take it tomorrow.

“I want fights that further my career. What would I gain from fighting a novice who has not been past four rounds? I couldn’t get up for it, I’d find it hard to get up and run in the morning.”
