Liam body shots are too much for Smith

LIAM Gould gained his maiden stoppage on BCB’s Saturday night bill at Bescot Stadium, Walsall, writes PAUL WEBB.

The Coseley light-middle feels he’s ready for a title shot and looked in excellent form, halting Shane Smith in the fifth of their scheduled six rounder.

The 25-year-old  is unbeaten in five and has yet to lose a single round since turning professional back in 2022.

A body shot in the first round seemed to hurt Smith, who was boxing the six round distance for the first time in what was just his second fight. Gould showed patience and despite having his opponent hurt several times, didn’t jump in and was very measured in his approach. A knockdown felt like it was coming and in round four a pair of body shots forced Smith to the canvas.

Gould had Smith hurt again in the fift, and he launched a series of punches that put him down for the second time, this time in his own corner. The Worcester man bravely made it to his feet, but couldn’t recover his legs and Gould swarmed him with more punches, forcing the referee to stop the fight at 2.07 in round five.
