Lauren’s back after 5 years away from ring

Guess who’s back? Johnson with trainer Carter

RESPECTED Wolverhampton trainer Richie Carter is piecing together a very formidable stable.

And there’s some real talent in the gym. Gully Powar is 4-0 and tipped for big things, Cannock’s Ollie Cooper is 5-0, the city’s Jermaine Osbourne-Edwards 7-0 and knocking on the door for an area title fight.

As Carter put it: “We’re steaming!”

That they are.

A familiar face is now returning with BCB and under the Carter banner.

Lauren “Black Widow” Johnson, from Willenhall, is back after close to five years out of the game.

Campaigning at light-welter, she peeled off three points wins – one over the eight round distance – before surprisingly hanging up her gloves in 2018.

Now 38, she’ll compete at light-middle and hopes to make her return in September.

Carter said: “I think she felt she under-achieved.

“She had time out because she had a baby and, obviously, that took up a lot of her time. She wants to see how far she can go. She’s seen all the (women’s) title fights going on and wants to try and get in the mix.

“She’s coming in a bit heavier, but will be fit. We’re looking for a couple of fights – hopefully, at The Hangar venue – and see where she lands.”
