Kay wants to leave his stamp on game

Kay Jiminez…globe-trotting who has made his base in Birmingham

Kay Jimenez reckons he will be light on his feet again after getting six rounds in the bag last time out. 

He fights again at the Eastside Rooms, Birmingham, on BCB’s show on Saturday, September 2. 

Jimenez made it 3-0 as a pro in June with a six rounds decision over tough Russian Rustem Fatkhullin. 

The bout was his first pro outing at welterweight, having previously registered two four round points successes at light-middle, over Paul Cummings and MJ Hall. 

The 31-year-old has yet to lose a session in the pro ranks, having defeated Fatkhullin through a 60-54 scoreline, with 40-36 verdicts earned at the expense of Cummings and Hall. 

Jimenez is based in Birmingham, living close to McCracken’s Gym, which is his training base.  

The “Syrian Gladiator” was born in Aleppo to a Syrian father and Spanish mother, who is now based in Marbella, where he boxed as an amateur. 

He was a four-time national champion in Syria and also boxed at amateur level in Spain and England (for Hooks Boxing Club in London), racking up 47 wins from 55 bouts. 

Jimenez said: “Training has gone amazing, so I can’t wait to be out again and under the lights. I’m getting more experience and we are always looking at high-level opponents. 

“I’m fit and ready to stay at welterweight. I made it for my last fight and noticed the difference. I’m a better boxer when I’m lighter. 

“As always, I miss my mum and girlfriend who are living back in Spain, although I spent three weeks over there during this camp. 

“I was able to do mountain runs and my old amateur club is in Marbella (Club De Boxeo Toro’s), so I can keep up my training there, with some good boxing people around me. 

“Spencer (McCracken) Snr is moulding and mentoring my career. When he sets a schedule of things for me to do, they will be done, whether I’m in Spain or on the moon!

“I was so happy with my fitness in doing six rounds and I felt like I could do it all over again afterwards. Even at the end, I was full of energy. 

“I feel that every opponent that I’ve had has given me something and the last one was no different. I’m still learning the trade and adding more to my arsenal. 

“He caught me with three good punches only, in the second round, so my guard was up and I wasn’t letting my shots go. When I did, I was absolutely dominating. 

“I have good hands and my shot selection is getting better and better. I was hitting more to the body. I believe that I can work out any man in the ring, as every boxer should.

“My determination is to achieve my potential and leave a stamp on this game. I have less than one year as a professional, but this is how I would like to be remembered.”
