Is Conah set to face Belfast’s KO king?

Conah Walker…Wolverhampton welterweight powerhouse

THE Irish press is buzzing with news of an impending fight that looks an absolute barnstormer.

No confirmation, but the Irish News has stated as fact that Wolverhampton warrior Conah Walker will face Belfast sensation Lewis Crocker in June.

If so, what a wonderful welterweight collision that will be. And it underlines the fact Walker – a real throwback of a fighter – wants to risk it against the best.

At 28, the BCB boxer is at the peak of his powers. With just two losses in a 16 bout career, Conah truly arrived last August by overwhelming unbeaten sensation Cyrus Pattinson – a man being groomed for very big things.

At Birmingham’s Utilita Arena, Pattinson was outmuscled and outgunned before being pulled out at the end of the eight.

Walker followed that sensational win by blitzing Lloyd Germain, unbeaten in nine going into the contest, at Belfast’s Ulster Hall in January. The Welshman was down three times in the third.

Crocker, aged 27, was also on that bill – and also shone in stopping Jose Felix Jnr in five. That win earned him the WBO inter-continental belt.

The Irishman looks a handful, but, then, so did Pattinson before Walker burst his bubble.

He’s won all 18 pro fights, 10 by stoppage. In fact, The Croc won his first five contests inside three rounds.

If the rumours are correct, this will be an explosive encounter between two very heavy handed individuals.

As I said, no official confirmation or announcement. But it is being stated as fact by the Irish press.

During one interview, Conah told me: “I want to face the fighters that the others won’t.”

Looks like he’s being true to his word.
