Hughie Fury trains at Leamington gym

THERE’S been some serious beef at Fitzpatrick’s Leamington gym – courtesy of the famous fighting Fury family.

Last week Peter Fury, uncle of “Gypsy King” Tyson and the man who put the giant on the road to world title glory, descended on Derek Fitzpatrick’s gym with his own son, Hughie.

Hughie is no slouch. He’s won the British heavyweight title and fought for the WBO version of the world belt. The majority loss he suffered to Joseph Parker now looks very impressive following the New Zealander’s wins over Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang.

Hughie was in the spa town to spar with local lad Matty Harris, a 6ft 8ins giant who has won six of seven pro outings.

That’s some mighty collision on the canvas.

While there, the Furys also chatted to gym boss Derek Fitzpatrick’s fighters, including new pro Nick Leahy.

Matty, aged 24, now trains at Peter Fury’s Congelton, Cheshire, gym and is managed by Max McCracken.

Derek Fitzpatrick said: “One of Matty’s main sponsors, someone I’ve grown up with, asked about using the gym.

“It was fantastic and we look forward to having them down here again. They were gentlemanly.

“I was surprised by Matty, who I’ve known for a long time. He’s up to 19 stone a looks really, really solid. The puppy fat has gone.”
