Healey dominates in home city 6 rounder

Healey celebrates victory over the Colombian Quintana

WOLVERHAMPTON’S Katie Healey, long limbed and with stamina to burn, is a tough opponent for any female fighter, feather to lightweight.

Friday night’s major BCB Promotions bill at Wolverhampton’s Hangar Venue, provided my first look at the 24-year-old who has won six on the spin and already claimed a WBF super-bantam belt.

I don’t know who handles Healey, but she’s been well schooled and very well conditioned. Boxing’s bedrock – jab, cross and left hook – are on point.

Healey had too much of everything for Colombia’s Katherine Quintana at the Hangar, taking every session of their six rounder, 60-54.

Much taller than her opponent, Healey fired the jab like a well-oiled piston, slipped counters and drilled left hooks to the body.

In the last, she opened up with both hands to have the South American covering up.

On the same bill, Glasgow’s world class Hannah Rankin had too much of everything for Logan Holler, from South Carolina.

The former world light-middleweight champ had the edge in accuracy throughout, yet ended the 10 rounder looking like a loser, with blood spilling from her nose and a gash over her left eye that opened in the sixth.

For Rankin, that was the only drama. She bossed the action, taking every round, 100-90.

Holler certainly looked the part in gold and black gladiatorial attire, her blonde hair tied in corn rows.

But if looks were a prerequisite of fighting success, Tommy Fury would be world champ.
