Gully puts on a fight masterclass for fans

Gully Powar slips under Turco’s left hook

WOLVERHAMPTON whirlwind Gully Power is learning the patience needed for title rounds.

Under coach Richie Carter, the exciting super-bantam – usually a study in perpetual motion – gave a more measured display against much heavier Angelo Turco who scaled close to the lightweight limit at 134lbs.

Gully, now unbeaten in eight, still won all of the six rounds at Telford International Centre on Friday night – and won them at a canter. Now unbeaten in eight, much bigger things await Powar.

With gloves held high, Gully (129lbs) drilled the Belgian with jabs in the first, then opened up to head and body in the second.

My notes for the third simply state: “All Powar”. Turco, fighting for the 45th time (eight wins, three draws), was now being caught by crisp left hooks and sharp clusters, up and down.

The Black Country fight, only 21, showed excellent head movement in the fourth as he realised Turco presented the perfect opportunity to work on gym moves. Powar looked relaxed and poised throughout.

Offering little back, the visitor absorbed an eye-catching right hand, then left hook in the fifth and took more heavy ammo in the final session.

“I put on a real show last night,” Powar posted on facebook.

That he did. We knew Gully could fight, on Friday he showed he’s no slouch when it comes to boxing.
