Goldsmith back with a Sunday shoot-out
BRADLEY Goldsmith, one of Coventry’s brightest prospects, ends months of frustration with a six round outing on December 3.
The 25-year-old stays sharp on Tommy Owens’ Sunday afternoon show at the H Suite, Edgbaston.
To date the middleweight – a young man with an army of fans – has registered eight straight wins and looked something special in the process.
He is being groomed for big things by Dominic Ingle at his Sheffield gym.
But this year has been one Goldsmith will reflect on with mixed emotions. Back in July, he quickly demolished usually durable Egidijus Zukas with a crippling body shot at the Havoc, Wolverhampton.
He hasn’t boxed since through, what the fighter describes as, “factors out of my control”.
For a man, like Danny Quartermaine, craving big show exposure, that’s beyond frustrating.
He told me last night: “My time is coming and when it comes I’ll be more than ready. I’ve been in the gym since August, up in Sheffield, away from my family, waiting my opportunity. When it comes, I’ll grab it with both hands.
“I’m looking for a massive 2024.”
Goldsmith’s journey is an exciting one, with the whole of Coventry seemingly behind the talented fighter.
He’s certainly seen as one of their own - and the level of support Goldsmith enjoys is phenomenal, truly phenomenal.
“For me, it’s incredible,” he said. “The support I’ve got is second-to-none. With each fight it’s getting bigger and bigger, more people talk about my next fight. What’s going on in the world now, with rising bills, adds to my gratitude to those people.
“I think they appreciate the fact I’ve done this from such an early age. I’m doing what I always said I would do and people admire that. I’ll always remember where I started.”
The Coventry sporting public may be getting carried away, but Goldsmith certainly isn’t.
“I don’t want to think about it too much because everything happens for a reason,” he said. “If something comes up that I didn’t have in my plans I’ll take it with both hands, it’s all down to what’s available. I’m looking at the long game.
“As well as the improvements made physically and in terms of ability, mentally the improvements have been second-to-none - knowing how to deal with the build-up, the attention.
“I’m slowly, but surely, turning myself into a future star.”
