Farrell bringing the heat to Planet Ice bill

Niall Farrell…”I’ve never felt so strong and healthy”

FOR Niall Farrell – Birmingham boxing royalty – the pro journey continues at Solihull’s Planet Ice on June 10.

The former outstanding Team GB amateur has his second pro bout on promoter Tommy Owens’ show. It comes just over two months after Niall made his pro bow with landslide points victory over Simas Volosinas.

The 25-year-old gave a glimpse of what is to come on that night at Cannock Excelsior Sporting Club. Simas was hit with every punch in the book, yet somehow survived the storm. There were times when he looked ready to fall, but somehow clung on.

Farrell has a lot going for him. He’s blessed with superb skills, has a legion of supporters and is comfortable under the media glare. That glare will get stronger as he progresses.

Niall was among the many prospects at Eastside gym’s Sunday media morning and all eyes were on the prospect.

“Everyone told me you’ll never forget your debut,” he said, “and I can see why.

“I was happy with it. It was good getting the win and he was a very tough man.”

As an international amateur, Niall competed at featherweight, which must have entailed very hard work. How he squeezed his long frame into the nine stone division is, frankly, beyond this writer.

“It was a struggle,” he admitted. “I feel so much better now, I’m the strongest I’ve ever been. People say how much healthier I look and, importantly, I’m enjoying it.

“I’ve got so much more energy. Now I’m back with my dad (trainer Paddy) and he’s pushing me to be an even better all-round boxer.”

Niall is determined to travel the traditional route to glory – Midlands belt, English, British and beyond.  He is, he insists, in no rush – the tweaks needed for the pro ranks will not be made overnight.

Farrell has the pedigree and potential to be something special.

And fans should snap-up a ticket to the June 10 to witness the start of a very exciting story.
