Eggington gets slot on big Wolves show

The Savage, one of the game’s true warriors, with manager Jon Pegg

SAM Eggington, undisputed king of the crowd-pleasers, will fight on Wolverhampton’s next major televised bill in February.

The Sky Sports cameras return to the former Civic Hall on February 24 following last month’s Boxxer bill topped by Tyler Denny’s European middleweight title victory.

Details of the card have yet to be released, but Eggington’s manager Jon Pegg confirmed to me the light-middleweight’s place is secured.

Both Pegg and Stourbridge’s Eggington were miffed that The Savage had been excluded from November’s card: Pegg pulled no punches about the decision in interviews.

“Tyler Denny did well, but I think the show needed Sam,” Pegg told me.

Let’s be honest, every show needs Eggington, a 30-year-old who has featured in the most thrilling wars of recent times.

He’s gained titles at British, Commonwealth, European and world level and has gained back-to-back fight of the year awards.

Eggington is never in a bad fight. He’s “Savage” by name and, in the ring, Savage by nature.

He’s been out since securing an outstanding stoppage win over unbeaten puncher Joe Pigford in May.

Of February’s appointment -  Sam’s 43rd bout – Pegg said: “We’re looking at a title fight. At this stage in his career, Sam needs proper fights. He wants to get out there, he’s remained focused and he’s ready to go.”
