Dylan: young fighter with a real message

Dylan Norman…looking for fifth straight win at Solihull’s Planet Ice

DYLAN Norman, a man handed something of a rough ride in life before finding direction and purpose through boxing, is on a mission.

The 22-year-old lightweight said: “The pro game has opened my eyes a bit more. It has given me the ability to show kids you can come from nothing and achieve something.”

To hammer home that message, the boxer needs to keep winning, to keep moving up. He’s aware of that and it drives him.

Dylan, trained by former champ Wayne Elcock, goes for his fifth straight win at Solihull’s Planet Ice show on June 10. It’s a packed bill promoted by Tommy Owens.

To date all of Dylan’s fights have been over the four round apprentice distance. The Planet Ice show may see a needed step-up to six rounds.

Dylan, from Knowle, said: “I train for the longer distances, I’m always ready to go up a level. If there’s six rounds there, I’ll go for it. I’m always in the gym, always training. I’m up for fighting for a title, but now it’s about listening to instructions and carrying out instructions.”

To date, Dylan has learned his craft against journey who are near impossible to halt over four rounds.

Much stiffer tests await.

Dylan added: “Fighting journeymen can be frustrating, but those fights give you the chance to work on things. And you can’t switch off against them because they can hurt you.

“It’s about being disciplined and focused for the entire three minutes. In boxing, it takes a split second to be in real trouble. I don’t underestimate anyone I’m fighting.

“I train as if I’m training for a world title fight because my life – the life I want – depends on it.”

He added: “I’m deeply grateful to the fans and the team around me. Through that team, I’m learning something every day and becoming a better fighter every day.”

Dylan is also thankful to sponsors Justin Chamberlain at Hungry Bear Gaming and Concrete Developments.
