Duberry power show on the Skydome bill

Traie Duberry and Manning (far left)…set for a bright future

TRAIE Duberry, muscled and menacing, is emerging as the brightest star in Anthony Manning’s fledgling Birmingham fight stable.

He certainly made a big impression on GBM’s marathon show at Coventry Skydome by demolishing Admir Oglic in two rounds.

The Croatian, who lost for the 19th time in 22 fights, was simply blown away and Manning said excitedly in the aftermath: “You heard what they said – he’s the hardest boxer to match.”

It’ll be a lot harder after Saturday’s performance.

Duberry, aged 28, and Oglic are two very different physical specimens. The Aston cruiser looked chiselled and in peak condition, while his tall opponent’s slim body lacked definition.

And Oglic had no answer to Traie’s power. A left hook to the body dropped him within seconds and in the dying embers of the opening round, he was bulled to a neutral corner and floored by a right uppercut.

I was surprised Oglic, totally outgunned, came out for the second. He did and was promptly decked by a right to the ribs, prompting referee Ryan Churchill to end the slaughter at 26 seconds. I’m not sure he landed a punch of his own.

“I’m not in this game to be second best,” Duberry told me afterwards.

He is due to fight again on Manning’s May 4 show at Birmingham’s Eastside Rooms. I don’t expect potential opponents to form an orderly queue to face him.
