Delicious takes gold at European Games

Delicious Orie…a boxer who looks to have the world at his feet

DELICIOUS Orie has been crowned super-heavy champ at the European Games.

The Wolverhampton based, Birmingham trained fighter crowned a dream tournament in Krakow, Poland, by collecting gold today (Sunday).

It was a prize hard won. The 26-year-old fought five times in the competition to capture gold. And he had to come back from a round down before dominating Azerbaijan’s Muhammad Abdullayev. Orie showed superior power and hand-speed against an opponent who ended the bout cut over his right eye.

Delicious is a man destined for a golden future in the sport. A Birmingham Commonwealth Games winner, he will return from next year’s Olympics with top promoters chasing his signature.

He clinched his place at the Paris Games by reaching today’s final.

After the Olympics, he will be given the same glittering build-up and major paydays enjoyed by Anthony Joshua.

Delicious has the world at his feet. He is sitting on a fortune.

After Wednesday’s semi-final success, Orie – born in Moscow to a Nigerian father and Russian mother – said:  “It’s a dream I’ve always had and now I’ve got it. Every single day I wake up I tell myself I’m going to be an Olympian and today is the day.

“It would mean everything (to win gold at European Games). Hard work pays off and throughout this tournament my opponents have put me to the test and that’s why this means so much to me because they are the very top.

“To go out there and mix it with the best and then win? I can’t put it into words.

“The Olympics is all I think of. When I’m with family, when I’m training, even if I’m doing the most mundane task, it’s always at the back of my mind that I have to qualify for the Olympics and we’re here today and we’ve done it.”
