Danny looks to bring over 300 to TV show
A NATIONAL TV audience will soon experience the whirlwind force of nature that is Danny Quartermaine, a boxer who is putting Leamington Spa back on the pro boxing map.
The 25-year-old has been included on Boxxer’s massive May 6 Genting Arena bill.
An opponent is yet to be named for the four rounder, but those present, those who have not experienced the Quartermaine effect, are in for a treat.
He’s a positive whirling dervish in the ring. And, importantly, Danny – unbeaten in eight – shifts tickets by the bucketload. He’ll have a noisy contingent of fans in the arena.
He told me: “I’m looking to do 300 to 400 tickets.”
Of the big show experience, Danny said: “It’s very exciting indeed.”
Last month, Danny told me he wanted to claim an English belt by the end of 2023.
“I’m looking at super-feather (junior-lightweight in old money),” he said, “but if the opportunity came at feather, I’d take it. A day before weigh-in opens up a whole new experience.
“I want to push faster. I want to get on bigger shows, break into TV shows. As an amateur, I competed for four to five years at elite level with the top lads in the country.
“I look at the fighters I faced in the amateurs and what they’ve achieved and think it only brings glory to my name. Even back then I was always told I had a style more suited to the professionals. I’ve always had those energy levels, I’ve always been all action. After three rounds, I felt as if I was just warming-up.”
Quartermaine certainly has the unpaid pedigree to achieve very big things. He’s a six times Midlands champ and English titleholder.
As a pro, he’s faced opposition notches below the gifted boxers he beat on the amateur circuit. That will soon change, the hungry prospect pledged.
“I want the fans who have followed me to be at a show where they can see big names and big fights.”
That has now happened. And those present at Genting Arena should enjoy the fireworks that Danny brings to the ring.
