Christ The King ABC stages outdoor show
COVENTRY’S Christ The King amateur club held their annual outdoor show in glorious sunshine at Bablake Fields on Friday, writes JOE DONNELLY.
There were wins for CTK's Bruce Peel, Huey Malone, Cameron Seal and Tommy Ledwidge.
Up first was CTK’s Thomas Molloy boxing Yodah Dhaliwal, the Banbury lad doing enough to earn a slpit decision victory.
Bulkington ABC's Renae Cummins faced Ash Hodgkinson from Market Drayton, Cummins showing her boxing skills to win a unanimous victory against a very game opponent.
Bruce Peel (CTK) had to dig deep to defeat Aston ABC's Luke Puncheon in a very close bout, Peel getting a slpit decision.
CTK's Oliver Hainey came up short against a very game Kenny Sum, the West Warwicks boxer doing enough to win on another split decision.
GB boxer Huey Malone was up next against Reece Kanu, of Halton Riverside ABC. A blistering opening round saw Malone and Kanu go at each other with everything they had.
Early in the second round Kanu received a warning for holding and then an accidental clash of heads saw the bout stopped with Malone cut on his eye and unable to continue. The decision went to the scorecards and Malone won on a unanimous verdict - a real shame as this bout had all the hallmarks of a classic contest.
Then came Cameron Seal against Jack Middleton of One Bomb. The home boxer had dynamite in his hands and registered standing counts in the first round and again in the second.
Middleton's corner had seen enough and retired their boxer midway through the round, sparking loud applause from Seal's supporters.
Then came the rare occasion of two teammates boxing each other, Tommy Ledwidge and Ayo Arimashaun, both of CTK, had the misfortune of both of their opponents pulling out on fight day. The lads offered to box each other, a hard decision for their coaches but the boxers didn't want to miss the chance of appearing on their home turf.
The bout went the way of Ledwidge by unanimous decision but huge credit must go to Arimashaun for taking the contest against the vastly more experienced and development champion Ledwidge.
Mush Dawad (CTK) lost out on a unanimous decision to Aston ABC's Satinder Mayer, the Aston boxer showing great fitness and skill to forge a strong victory.
Last, but not least, was Fitzpatrick's boxer Davey Boswell closing the show with a first round stoppage over Coventry University's Binod Pun. Boswell started at a blistering pace with heavy punches to the body and head. Two standing counts followed and after more concussive blows the referee called a halt to the bout.
