Butlin makes it a hat-trick of wins

Dave Butlin…getting better with each performance

TAMWORTH’S Dave Butlin (183lbs) registered his third straight win at the expense of tall Latvian Edgars Sniedze (180) on Tommy Owens’ Sunday show at the H Suite.

After four spirited rounds, referee Dean scored 39-37, presumably giving experienced Sniedze the last when he rallied and connected with some meaty shots.

Up until then, 29-year-old Butlin had dictated the pace behind a stiff jab.

Tyseley rail worker Elliott Sowe (150lbs) got his career back on track after a ninth month break with shut-out, 40-36 victory over Luke Middleton (152lbs).

It was one-paced at times, but Sowe’s better jab kept him in front. Elliott, from a white collar background, has lost only one of seven, while Worksop’s Middleton tasted defeat for the 26th time in 30 (two draws).

Serving soldier Leon Mitchell (199lbs) – billed out of Nottingham, but actually a Birmingham lad - kept the punches flowing for a 39-37 debut win over Joe Nakavulevo.

He was busier throughout the four rounder, but still has plenty of baggage to shift if he is to fulfil his ambition of boxing at light-heavy. Arbroath’s Nakavulevo had a big weight advantage at 226lbs yet saw his record dip to one win in eight (one draw).
