Bradley closing in on first professional title

Winning team…Bradley Goldsmith and Dominic Ingle (right)

RUMOURS circulate of a potential big fight for Bradley Goldsmith, the middle with a mighty fan base.

And the former outstanding Coventry amateur has admitted: “I’m itching to be able to announce something. I’ve asked the question and when I’m told, I’m told. I’d love to be able to give you some news.”

The 26-year-old, being groomed for big things at Dominic Ingle’s Sheffield gym, deserves a title fight and TV exposure.

In peeling off 11 straight wins, seven inside distance, he’s looked special. Time will tell us how special.

And Bradley sells tickets on a rock festival scale.

He said: “A title fight this year, definitely. If the opportunity’s the correct one, I’ll grab it with both hands.

“I think I’m ready for fighters in the the top 15, top 10, I know I’m more than capable.”

But the prospect stressed patience is the key. “Everything happens for a reason,” he said. “I’m not going to rush the process, I’m going to trust the process.

“I’m not the finished article, but I’m well on the way. Even world champions go back in the gym after a world title defence to work on stuff.”

In these austere times, the number of fans Bradley attracts to his fights is nothing short of phenomenal.

He told me: “I don’t think there’s anyone at my level, at this stage in my career, who are doing the numbers I am. Remember, it’s still small hall boxing. Imagine when I get the big promotions and TV deal - I just know those hundreds will turn into thousands.

“For me, it’s incredible. The support I’ve got is second-to-none. With each fight it’s getting bigger and bigger, more people talk about my next fight. What’s going on in the world now, with rising bills, adds to my gratitude to those people.

“I think they appreciate the fact I’ve done this from such an early age. I’m doing what I always said I would do and people admire that. I’ll always remember where I started.”

That barmy army of supporters may soon have something to really shout about.
