Bowen ends his pro debut in one round

Bowen celebrates the quick win

ONE of the Midlands top amateurs made his debut on last weekend’s big Nottingham Arena bill.

And Aaron Bowen was in no mood to mess around.

The Coventry 24-year-old demolished Mathieu Gomes for the full count with a perfect shot to the pit of the stomach.

That first paid fight was watched by an army of fans. Bowen is clearly well supported.

The middleweight comes to the pro game with high expectations. The then light-heavy collected a bronze medal at last year’s Commonwealth Games, staged in Birmingham.

Aaron struck gold at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games and gained two national titles.

That is some glowing CV.

On facebook, Bowen posted: “This is only the beginning. Want to say a massive thankyou to everyone who watched me last night and came to support. The atmosphere was something else. Now onto the next opponent.”

Gomes represented a decent first test for the debutant, having won five of nine. Much stiffer tests await the former amateur star, however.
