Bowen buzzing to be on big Brum TV bill

Aaron Bowen….a younger boxer with a massive fanbase

FOLLOWING news hot middleweight prospect Aaron Bowen is to appear on next month’s major Utilita Arena bill in Birmingham, DEREK FITZPATRICK spoke to the star. AAaron, aged 24 and from Coventry, looks to go 3-0 on the August 19 show.

When and why did you start boxing?

Started boxing aged 13. My grandad coached at the Triumph and my dad trained there, so it was always in the family and watching Prizefighter a lot growing up, I went and tried it once and haven’t looked back since.

Tell me about you amateur debut?

First fight was against a local lad and against Triumph as I started at Coventry Boys. Triumph has a high standard and their reputation was scary going there to fight, so I was very nervous. I lost the fight, but it was as if I’d won the, buzz I got from it. I remember lots of people came to watch and it was the start of a big following.

What was you amateur highlight and most memorable bout?

Amateur highlight would be Commonwealth Games, from starting out just hoping to win a Midlands title to then representing England on the biggest stage in Birmingham was also a proud moment. Most memorable bout would be at a home show in Coventry where I boxed Ben Fail. He was known for his power, but we stood in the centre and had a proper fight for three rounds - an enjoyable fight to be in, with the crowd making it even better.

Titles won or challenged for?

Youth national champion, youth British champion, youth commonwealth games gold, two senior ABA titles, senior British champion, Commonwealth games bronze, two gold and two silver international medals for GB.

How did you find the transition from  amateur to professional?

Not so bad as I’ve trained around professionals all my life. There were, slight changes to training, but I enjoyed the transition and prefer the style of it.

Tell me about you professional debut?

A great start to my career, selling over 350 tickets on a world title main event up the road in Nottingham and stopped the fighter in the first round.

Your professional highlight so far?

The debut is my highlight but boxing on such good cards, being a Matchroom fighte,r is a great feeling.

 What’s next for Aaron Bowen?

Boxing back in Birmingham in August looking to go 3-0 and keep progressing until I can box for a title.

What’s the best advice you could give a boxer starting out?

Keep going and you’ll get where you want eventually even if it seems impossible. Enjoy it as well.
