Baker reaches a ring milestone at Dudley

Kane Baker…takes part in his 30th bout at Dudley Town Hall

SATURDAY night’s show at Dudley Town Hall represents something of a milestone for Kane Baker.

Birmingham’s former Midlands champ and English title contender takes part in his 30th contest on the BCB bill.

Baker is looking for a return to winning ways, after his last outing against Jordan Flynn, which turned out to be quite a battle on the Anthony Joshua card.

Unbeaten Flynn knew he’d been in a war at the end of their eight rounder. Some felt Baker should’ve had his hand raised.

Baker ended up being edged out by two points, 77-75 after a spirited performance and felt aggrieved to be on the losing side.

The 32-year-old, who boxed at junior-lightweight (super feather) on that April night, has certainly taken on all comers during his seven-year pro career.

Only the likes of Conor Benn, Gary Cully, Sanjeev Sahota, Sam Maxwell, Darren Surtees, Myron Mills, Aqib Fiaz, Francesco Grandelli and Flynn have beaten him.

The game Brummie, from Bartley Green,  has 18 victories to his credit, including a solitary TKO over Luke Fash, along with a draw last year against Diego Valtierra.

He’s held the Midlands lightweight title, beating Ishmael Ellis, and challenged for English honours.

The ‘0’ of Meshech Speare was additionally taken when the two met in a six-rounder, with Baker overcoming a cut, by the left eye, to come out on top.

His next assignment will be an intriguing one, when Baker goes toe-to-toe with journeyman MJ Hall, who is even more of a road warrior.

His weight on the night will also be interesting. MJ, from Brierley Hill, has campaigned at light-middle.

While Baker’s nights out have taken him to places such as Belfast, Saudi Arabia and Gibraltar, southpaw Hall has been in much smaller halls and fought with far more regularity.

Centurion Hall has crammed a lot into a pro run that didn’t start until a year after Baker made his bow. He’s well aware of what’s required to keep up the pace.

Tickets for the Town Hall bill are still available, priced at £40 standard or £75 VIP ringside, directly from the boxers or by visiting myfighttickets.com.
